Rare pressed maple snuff box c. 1810.
This is an exceptional example of its kind. This pressed maple snuff box was made in the early part of the nineteenth century. It shows “Chasse aux lions” (The Lion hunt) – a rare design – to the lid, in a well defined figurative image in relief. The base of the box has linear decoration. The colour and patination are superb. This box, together with the scatch carved Napoleonic box also listed here, came from a private collection and it has been some time since items of this calibre have appeared on the market.
This fine and highly desirable snuff box is 8.75cm long, 5cm wide and stands 1.75cm high. (Measurements approximate). It is in excellent condition, showing only light wear appropriate to its age and substance. It has no damage and no restoration.
