Mid nineteenth century agate and gold desk seal c. 1860.
This fine desk seal was made in the mid nineteenth century, around 1860. It is of casrved red agate with very feint grey banding. The collar and matrix are of tested high grade gold and the matrix itself bears the intials of the owner. The decoration to the marked but indecipherable collar, is of light foliate scrolls. The seal is presented in it’s original velvet lined case. The condition of the seal is excellent, no chips, cracks or restoration. The case is of good order though does not close due to slight warping in the lid.
The case measures 11.5cm long and is 5.5cm at its widest point. The seal is 9cm long and 2.5cm at its widest point. (Measurements approximate). It is in excellent condition showing only light wear appropriate to its age and substance. It has no damage and no restoration.
