A late nineteenth – early twentieth century Austro Hungarian silver and enamel box.
This box is of outstanding quality and stylish design. Of Austro Hungarian origin, it dates to the latter part of the nineteenth century, possibly just edging into the twentieth. The box is lavishly coated in a striking apricot yellow enamel over engine turned decoration, finely bordered in white. The top has a wonderful Gothic tracery picked out in blue and white enamel, the boxes edge finished by egg and dart decoration. The box is made from a heavy gauge of silver and retains its high grade gilding to the interior. Unusually it has a self closing hinge.
This truly exceptional silver and enamel box is 8.2 cm long, 5.7 cm wide and stands 1 cm high. (Measurements approximate). It is in excellent condition, showing light wear appropriate to its age and substance. It has no damage and no restoration.
