Late eighteenth century Staffordshire enamel perfume box

A late eighteenth century Staffordshire enamel perfume box. c. 1780.

This charming little box is most likely to have been made in south Staffordshire in the last quarter of the eighteenth century and would have been a highly prized item at that time. It was one of the many small items that ladies and gentlemen of the time would have bought from “Toy shops” that sold snuff boxes, perfume bottles, patch boxes, etui and a variety of other small items of function and artistic merit. This lovely little box contains a removable glass bottle with a ground stopper which could have been taken to a supplier for refilling as required.

This delightful eighteenth century enamel box stands 5.5 cm high, is 2.5cm at its widest point and 1.2 cm deep. (Measurements approximate). It is in excellent condition, showing only light wear appropriate to its age and substance. It has no damage and no restoration.
