Late eighteenth century George III snuff shoe.
This example of a late eighteenth century George III snuff shoe is exceptional. This was a particularly popular form of snuff box both with ladies and gentlemen of the period, a fascination which lasted through to the early years of the reign of Queen Victoria. This example is made from mahogany and is profusely decorated with brass pin work. The box was designed to be carried in the pocket and the sliding lid still retains its tight fit.
This late eighteenth century snuff shoe is 8cm long, 2.5cm at its widest point and stands 2.8cm high. (Measurements approximate) It is in excellent condition. It shows wear appropriate to its age. It has no damage and no restoration.
