Description

Late eighteenth century English enamel snuff box. Rare purple ground. c. 1770.

This fine English enamel suff box was produced in the latter part of the eighteenth century. It was not uncommon for a gentleman of this period to have several such boxes in his posession. This example has a particularly rare purple ground to the floral decoration that is applied to the surface and has survived in remarkable condition. It is likely that this box was made in South Staffordshire, possibly at Bilston. It has a slightly domed top and bombe sides typical of snuff boxes of the period.

This fine late eighteenth century English enamel box is 5.5cm wide, 4.3cm deep and stands 3cm high. (Measurements approximate). It is in excellent condition, showing light wear appropriate to its age. It has no damage and no restoration.
