Early Seventeenth Century Silver Gilt Box. c.1640.
This charming and very rare box was made in Augsburg, Germany by the Silversmith Nicolaus Kolb II in around 1640. It is of heavy gauge silver and gilded. The lid is decoated with a hand cut landscape showing a castle and a small boat on the river. The interior of the box is divided into four sections and the item was possibly used as a personal Spice box. The box is fully marked to the base.
This fine and rare box is 3.6cm wide, 3.5cm deep and stands 2cm high. (Measurements approximate). It is in very good condition, bearing only wear appropriate to its age and substance. It has no damage and no restoration.
